Granola Bars

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup oil
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup turbinado sugar
  • 2 tbsp. honey
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup whole wheat pastry flour
  • 1 tsp. wheat germ
  • 1/2 tsp. flax seed
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 cups quick cooking oats
  • 1 1/4 cups rice krispies
  • 1/2 cup blanched slivered almonds
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup craisins,raisins, or dried cherries

Preparation

Step 1

1. Cream the oil and sugars in a mixer for 5 minutes. Add the honey,vanilla, and eggs;mix well. Gradually add the flour,wheat germ,flax seed, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt.
2. Remove from mixer and stir in the oats, cereal, nuts, chocolate chips, and crasins.
3. With wet hands press into a 9 by 13 inch pan lined with parchment paper. Bake at 350 degree for 22 minutes.
4. Right after removing from oven cut into bars. Allow to harden for 20 minutes and separate. Cool.
