Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 to 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 green pepper
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • Chili seasoning (one packet)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 2 cans Hunt diced tomatoes w/ sweet onions
  • 1 can Rotel Tomatoes ( mild or med)
  • 1 can chili Beans
  • Tabasco (a few drops)
  • 1 can red beans (drained, not rinsed)
  • 1 can kidney beans (drained, not rinsed)
  • 1 can chopped green chilis
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup Jack Daniels whiskey

Preparation

Step 1

Brown ground beef in large pot and drain fat. Add chopped onion and garlic to pot. Sprinkle in packet of chili seasoning. Cover and simmer for approximately 10 minutes. Add 1 teaspoon cumin power and 1 tablespoon chili powder to the mixture. Stir well.

Once stirred, add the following ingredients:
2 cans Hunt diced tomatoes w/ sweet onions
1 can Rotel Tomatoes (mild or med)
1 can red beans ,drained
1 can kidney beans , drained
1 can chopped green chilis

Stir all together and simmer for approximately 30 minutes. Uncover and add 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup Jack Daniel whiskey. Stir again, cover and simmer on low heat, stirring occasionally. Flavors develop the longer it cooks.
Mashing some beans will make the mixture nice and thick. Add more sugar / whiskey to taste in equal proportions if desired.

Can top with grated cheese chopped onions, green onions, and/or sour cream if desired.
