Chocolate Chip Date Cake

My good friend,m Sheila Vrana, made this for us and we just loved it!! Very moist and very, very good.

Ingredients

• TOPPING:
• 1 C chopped sugared dates
• 1 tsp. baking soda
• 1 C. boiling water
• 1/2 C. shortening
• 1 C. sugar
• 2 eggs, well-beaten
• 1 1/2 C. flour
• 1/4 tsp. salt
• 6 oz. chocolate chips
• 1/2 C. sugar
• 1/2 C. chopped pecans

Preparation

Step 1

Mix dates, baking soda, and boiling water. Stand to cool.

Cream shortening and sugar and add eggs.

Sift flour and salt and add to creamed mixture.

Blend in the mixture

Pour into greased 9"X13" cake pan.

Combine the topping ingredients and sprinkle on top of the cake prior to baking.

Bake at 350 F for 30 minutes.
