Wild Rice

Simple instructions on how to cook wild rice.

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cups wild rice
  • 2 1/2 cups water or broth
  • 1/2 to 1 tsp salt, if using water

Step 1

Wash wild rice in 3 changes of hot tap water; drain. In saucepan, heat rice, water and salt (if using) to boiling. Reduce heat and cover. Simer until rice is tender and has absorbed the water, about 30 to 45 min. Drain at the 30 minute mark for chewier rice. Rice should be tender but not "rolled back" or "mushy". Some kernels will be open, but other will be just tender.
