APPETIZER-SPICED NUTS

Ingredients

  • CUPS WALNUT HALVES,PECAN HALVES,CASHEWS,OR COMBO OF THESE:
  • 1/2 C FIRMLY PACKED BROWN SUGAR
  • 1/2 TSP SALT
  • 1/2 TSP GROUND CINNAMON
  • 1/4 TSP GROUND ALLSPICE
  • 1/8 TSP GROUND NUTMEG
  • 1/8 TSP GROUND CLOVES
  • 1 1/2 TSP WATER

Preparation

Step 1

1. IN DEEP 2 QT HEAT RESISTANT, NON-METALLIC CASSEROLE COMBINE 7 INGRED.
2. HEAT, UNCOVERED ON FULL POWER 1 ½ MINUTES, STIR OCCASIONALLY
3. ADD ½ C NUTS AT A TIME TO SYRUP MIXTURE. STIR UNTIL WELL COATED. WITH A SLOTTED SPOON LIFT OUT NUTS; DRAIN EXTRA SYRUP. PLACE NUTS IN A SHALLOW, 1 ½ QT, HEAT RESISTANT, NON- METALLIC BAKING DISH. REPEAT WITH REMAINING NUTS.
4. HEAT COATED NUTS UNCOVERED ON FULL POWER 5 MINUTES OR UNTIL SYRUP BEGINS TO HARDEN SLIGHTLY.
5. TRANSFER NUTS TO GREASED WAX PAPER AND ALLOW TO COOL AND HARDEN.
6. MAKES 1 ½ CUP
