Ginger Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 3/4 cup shortening (1/2 cup butter and 1/4 cup lard)
  • 1 1/2 tsp .soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 4 tablespoons molasses
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. ginger

Preparation

Step 1

Mix the first 4 ingredients well; add dry ingredients and mix well.
Roll teaspoonfuls of dough into a ball and flatten on a well- greased cookie sheet with the bottom of a tumbler dipped in sugar. Cookies are VERY thin.
Bake at 325° F. about 12 minutes. These may be decorated as desired for Christmas cookies. Yields about 5 dozen cookies.
