Ingredients

  • 1/2

    cup unsalted butter or margarine

  • 1/4

    cup vegetable shortening

  • 2

    cups sugar

  • 3

    large eggs

  • 11/2

    cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/4

    tsp salt

  • 1 1/2

    tsp vanilla

  • 1

    cup chopped nuts

  • 3/4

    cup unsweetened cocoa

  • CHOCOLATE SATIN GLAZE:

  • 1/2

    cup unsweetened cocoa

  • 1/4

    cup vegetable shortening

  • 1/2

    tsp vanilla

  • 1/2

    cup heavy cream

  • 1/2

    cup sugar

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a 9 x 13 inch baking pan with heavy duty foil. In a small saucepan, over low heat, melt butter and shortening then remove from heat. In a large bowl with a wooden spoon beat sugar, eggs and vanilla, beat in melted butter and shortening. Add flour, cocoa and salt beating until well blended. Stir in nuts. Pour batter into prepared pan, spreading evenly. Bake for 30 minutes or until dry on top and almost firm to the touch Cool completely in pan. Remove from pan by lifting aluminum foil. Turn down foil edges and spread with chocolate satin gla2e. When glaze is firm, cut into 1 by 3 inch bars.In a medium saucepan combine cocoa, sugar and shortening. Cook over medium , stirring until shortening is melted. Add cream and vanilla. Cook, stirring until glaze is smooth and shiny. Remove from heat and let cool until just warm. Spread over brownies.
