Ingredients

  • Frosting:
  • 1 stick butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup butter flavored Crisco
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups all purpose flour, unsifted
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 tbsp coco powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 stick butter or margarine
  • 4 tbsp coco powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 box powdered sugar, sifted
  • chopped walnuts – optional

Preparation

Step 1

In small saucepan melt butter/margarine, shortening and add water. In large mixing bowl, mix all dry ingredients. Add eggs, buttermilk, vanilla and melted ingredients from pan. Mix well. Pour mixture into a 17 x 11 x 1 inch shallow pan and bake for 20 to 30 minutes in preheated 350 degree oven. Cool completely before icing.

Frosting:
In small saucepan melt butter/margarine and add milk. DO NOT BRING TO A FULL BOIL. In a mixing bowl, mix dry ingredients and slowly add melted mixture from pan, mixing at low speed of mixer. Mix for approximately 2 to 3 minutes. Pour over top of cooled brownies and add chopped walnuts (if desired). Let stand until icing cools and sets. Cut into squares.
