Caramel Apples PRINT

Caramel Apples
  • YIELD: 6 servings

The caramel coating is very gooey, so refrigerate the apples for about 15 minutes, or until the caramel has firmed up. (You will need 6 wooden craft sticks for this recipe.

Ingredients

6 apples, cold, (refrigerated overnight)
1 (14 ounce) package individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
2 tablespoons milk

Directions

1.Remove the stem from each apple and press a craft stick into the top. Butter a baking sheet.
2.Place caramels and milk in a microwave safe bowl, and microwave 2 minutes, stirring once. Allow to cool briefly.
3.Roll each apple quickly in caramel sauce until well coated. Place on prepared sheet to set.

I melt the caramels in a 4 C pyrex cup, so that the apple fits down in the cup. This is the easiest way to dip that I have found (no wasted caramel). I give each child a square of wax paper and have them butter the square. Then with adult help ( the caramel needs to cool a little) I let them decorate the apples from a selection of toppings (candy corn, m&ms, halloween sprinkles, cookie crumbs and any other small candies I can find.). Once the apple is decorated, the buttered square can be wrapped up around the apple a little loosely, than tied.
