Chili (Southern Living 5-Star)

This recipe is from a Southern Living 5-star recipe collection. It's my family's all-time favorite chili recipe. Might look like a lot of ingredients, but it's not hard to put together. We like to top with shredded cheddar, sour cream, tortilla chips and extra hot sauce. Also delicious with broccoli cheddar cornbread (recipe posted separately).

Ingredients

2 # ground beef
½ t. chili powder
¼ t. ground cumin
__________
2 large onions, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 jalapeno pepper, seeded/chopped
2 T. vegetable oil
__________
2 (15-oz) cans tomato sauce
1 (15-½-oz) can mexican-style chili beans, undrained
1-½ c. water
1 (6-oz) can tomato paste
½ c. salsa
3-4 T. chili powder
__________
1 (16-oz) can red kidney beans, drained
1 (12-oz) can beer
1 (2-¼ oz) can sliced ripe olives, drained (optional)
½ t. ground cumin
Salt and pepper to taste

Top chili in bowl with:
Shredded cheddar cheese
Sour cream
Sliced ripe olives
Tortilla chips
Hot sauce or salsa
