Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, at room temperature
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange rind
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup chopped hazelnuts or 1 cup walnuts
  • 3 cups diced blue Italian plums

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350°.

Lightly grease two 9x5 inch loaf pans.

In large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, and beat well after each addition. Add orange rind and vanilla.

In separate bowl, combine flour, salt, cinnamon, cream of tartar and baking soda. Add dry ingredients and sour cream alternately to creamed mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.

Stir in nuts and plums. Divide batter between two loaf pans.

Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

Let pans cool on rack for 10 minutes, then turn loaves out of pans and cool completely on rack. Makes 2 loaves.
