| 1 | lb dried green split peas |
| 1 | bouillon cube |
| ¾ | lb smoked ham, cubed or 1 ham hock |
| 1 | small onion, whole |
| 1 | clove garlic |
| 1 | bay leaf |
| 1 | medium carrot, sliced |
| salt to taste | |
| pepper to taste | |
| 8-10 | cups water |
In a 6-8 quart pot, combine all the ingredients. Bring to a boil.
Reduce heat, cover and cook on low for 2 hours.
Remove ham and bay leaf. With immersion blender or food processor, puree soup.
Replace ham and serve.
