Ingredients

  • 1 lb sweet Italian sausage
  • 3/4 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup minced onion
  • 2 clove garlic
  • 1 (28 oz) can of crushed tomatoes
  • 2 (6 oz) cans tomato paste
  • 2 (6.5 oz) cans tomato sauce
  • 1/2 - 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp fennel seed
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley
  • 12 lasagna noodle
  • 32 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 lb mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan

Preparation

Step 1



1. Cook sausage, beef, onion and garlic over medium heat until browned.
2. Stir in tomato products and water. Season with next 7 ingredients. Simmer covered for about 1 ½ hours, stirring occasionally.
3. Cook noodles in salted boiling water 8-10 minutes. Drain and rinse in cold water.
4. Combine ricotta cheese and egg in bowl and mix in parsley and salt.
5. Preheat oven to 375F

Assemble:
1. Spread1 ½ cup meat sauce in a 9x13 baking dish.
2. Layer of (6) noodles, lengthwise over meat sauce.
3. Spread ½ of the Ricotta cheese mixture
4. Top with 1/3 of the mozzarella cheese slices.
5. Spoon 1 ½ cup meat sauce on mozzarella
6. Sprinkle with ¼ cup parmesan cheese
7. Repeat layers and top with remaining mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
8. Spray foil with cooking spray to prevent sticking and cover lasagna.
9. Bake for 25 minutes, remove foil and bake an additional 25 minutes.
10. Cool 15 minutes before serving.
