Almond Joy Whole Grain Donuts

Sometimes you need a sweet treat with little or no white sugar, so you might as well add in a serving of whole grains while you are at it! Whole wheat pastry flour is a great way to introduce your family to whole grain baked goods. It’s milled finer and is easier to camouflage if you have picky eaters.

These are sweetened with a combination of stevia and agave, but you can adjust them to use your sweetener of choice. I find that adding a touch of agave when I use stevia seems to add the round mouth-feel I miss from white sugar. But if you don’t like agave you can certainly leave it out.

The chocolate glaze that coats these little bites of tastiness is made with melted grain-sweetened chocolate chips with almond extract, coconut milk, and a touch of agave nectar.

Please feel free to sub your favorite gluten-free baking blend. I’m not sure if the grain-sweetened chocolate chips are gluten-free though, so  make sure to check them before you buy them.

Don’t have a fancy shmancy donut pan? Use a mini muffin pan instead. Don’t want to make a glaze? These are great all by themselves too!

Kathy, who doesn’t love an almond joy. OMG – these look insanely delicious. I am really inspired to make doughnuts now.
